Managing Tafelberg

Each Social Housing development is managed by a social housing institution, which must look after the flats for many years. These are companies which do not make a profit. They are created specially to build and manage social housing.
The biggest social housing institutions in Cape Town are the Social Housing Company (SOHCO), Madulammoho Housing Association and Communicare.

The feasibility study says that each home will cost the social housing company around R890 every month. This operating cost includes money for maintenance of the property, cleaning the communal areas, keeping the gardens neat and tidy, and paying for security and management.

This is all paid for by rent which every tenant must pay on time every month. Tenants who pay more help to subsidise the cost for tenants who pay less.
