The public comment period for the feasibility study is now open and its ends on 30 January 2017. If you support the idea of building social housing on Tafelberg and other well located areas, here are some ideas how you can demonstrate your support:

Speak up and speak out

We need to stand together and show residents across Cape Town that the majority of people support an inclusive and integrated city.

• Educate yourself on social housing. Look at examples around the world and in South Africa. Know the Pros and Cons.

• Talk to friends and family about the importance of social housing on the Tafelberg site.

• Use social media to share the importance of social housing on the Tafelberg site. Don’t let NIMBYists talk you down - show up with positivity. A NIMBY is someone who supports social housing in principle, but doesn’t want it next to them because they have prejudiced ideas about who will live there. It stand for Not In My Back Yard. They always want it people elsewhere. Preferably far away. Tell them that you support an inclusive and just city.

Attend or host a meeting - take a resolution

The only way we can build momentum is to talk to as many people as possible. Many people are scared, confused or don’t care about the idea of social housing. Other are passionate and want to get involved. The best way is to host a small meeting at your work or home to bring together a few friends, neighbours or colleagues to talk about what social housing means. If you feel confident then use this pamphlet and host a meeting. Otherwise call and ask for support and we can make sure there is someone who can attend to answer questions.

 

Make a submission

Get involved, make a submission and get others to make submissions that are supportive of social housing on Tafelberg and include suggestions that could improve the social housing or the affordability of the project.

On Thur 19 January 2017 residents will host a public meeting to discuss the feasibility study and answer any questions about social housing. We expect many different voices and opinions. Come and show your support. Details TBC here.
